Women’s Services Growing
with Our Region’s Families
Growing
families have shared the joy of their new arrivals with Sacred
Heart staff since the hospital’s earliest days. Sacred Heart
welcomed its first baby, Janice Gundersheimer, into the world
on Sept. 7, 1915. Dr. William Dewberry attended the birth, and
Janice and her mother left the hospital 11 days later with a bill
of only $47.57. Sacred Heart has been caring for women and meeting
their healthcare needs since then, including delivering all eight
of Janice's children.
Today, Sacred
Heart Women’s Hospital, is the only Women’s Hospital
in Northwest Florida. More of our region’s babies are born
at Sacred Heart than any hospital in Northwest Florida. And just
in case, our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is staffed with
highly skilled physicians and nurses who provide lifesaving care
for babies who are sick or premature.

| In
2002, three sets of quadruplets were born at Sacred Heart
Women's Hospital to the Dorr, Helms, and Dietrich families. |
“While
the birth of a child is the reason so many women come to Sacred
Heart, we’ve designed our facilities with all of women's
health needs in mind,” says Pippa Nicholson-Kuenn, administrative
director of Women’s and Cancer services. “Throughout
our campus, and throughout our region, we’ve combined a
wide variety of medical specialists with convenient, comprehensive
healthcare services delivered in beautiful, patient-friendly environments,”
she adds.
From
the Ann
L. Baroco Center for Women's Health which provides on-site

provides care for all stages and needs of a woman's life. Our
highly specialized physicians diagnose and treat cancers of special
concern to women, and provide women’s heart and vascular
care with the latest diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation
services available. Comprehensive orthopedic services, including
aggressive care for joint replacement patients, also can be found

Great Expectations
Every expectant mother wants the very best
for her baby. Healthy babies are the goal of Sacred Heart’s
Seton Center, a component of our Regional Perinatal Center. The
Seton Center provides compassionate, quality prenatal care to
pregnant women regardless of their ability to pay. During 2004-2005
alone, the Seton Center served 16,000 OB/GYN patients and welcomed
the arrival of 900 babies.
