Charles Wyatt, M.D.


Medical Education
Dr. Charles Wyatt, a native of Houston, Texas, received his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed his general surgery internship and residency from Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals followed by a Thoracic Surgery fellowship at the University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals in Miami, Florida. Following his fellowship, Dr. Wyatt stayed on as a faculty member at the University of Miami School of Medicine in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery for three years. While in Miami, he was nominated for the Florida Medical Association Outstanding Volunteer Service Award for his work with the Hurricane Andrew Relief program.

Medical Interests
Dr. Wyatt is board-certified in general and thoracic surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Surgeons, American College of Cardiology and Society of Thoracic Surgeons. His clinical expertise includes treatment of patients utilizing both conventional open as well as endovascular approaches to the heart and vascular system. He has also been involved recently as the Chief of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) program. He has over 100 published abstracts, peer-reviewed articles and presentations credited to his name. In his previous location, Dr. Wyatt founded the “Be A Heart Starter” Mass CPR training event held annually in Lafayette, Louisiana – the program has trained over 18,000 citizens to perform bystander CPR.

Profile
Dr. Wyatt has a strong passion for sports and played NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey throughout his undergraduate years at Wesleyan University. He is a skilled musician and enjoys playing the trumpet in his spare time. For over 15 years, Dr. Wyatt played with the Blue Soul Band out of Lafayette. When sports and music aren’t enough, he enjoys flying as a pilot. He also performs functions for the FAA as an Aviation Medical Examiner. Dr. Wyatt prides himself on giving back to the community and helping those in need and during his career was recognized by The American Institute for Public Service who awarded him the nationally acclaimed Jefferson Award for Public Service for his ongoing contributions to his community.
