The hub of the Health System is a 566-bed acute care facility which includes Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola (SHHP) and Children's Hospital at Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart completed a major expansion in 2014 when it opened the new Bayou Tower containing 112 private rooms. The new tower, constructed on top of the existing three-floor Heart and Vascular Institute, provides state-of-the-art intensive-care units on floors 4 and 5, cardiology units on floors 6 and 7 and a brand new location with a large rehab area for the Joint Replacement Center on floor 8. The tower was designed to ensure safety and promote a healing environment, with features such as, overhead lift systems, newly designed headboards, centrally located nursing stations, large physician work areas and spacious rooms with private bathrooms, exterior windows and space for family and visitors. The added units allow SHHP to expand services, meet the community’s need for more capacity to treat critically ill patients and provide all-private rooms throughout the tower and the main hospital.
Consumers in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties have consistently chosen Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola as the area hospital with the best overall quality and reputation. The top rating by consumers earned Sacred Heart recognition as a winner of the 2014 Consumer Choice Award from National Research Corp. for the 15th year in a row.
As a member of Ascension Health, Sacred Heart practices its mission of care to the poor in many ways, providing comfort and healing to those in need spiritually, medically or financially.
