Women's Cancer Services
In addition to our comprehensive treatment of cancer at the Sacred Heart Cancer Center, Sacred Heart offers expert-level care for cancers of special concern to women.
Comprehensive Care for Gynecologic Cancers
Gynecologic cancers can occur at any time in a woman's life, but they are most often seen in women over the age of 50. These include diseases of the following:
- Fallopian tube
Although abnormal vaginal bleeding may be a warning sign for some gynecologic cancers, others (particularly ovarian cancer) have non-specific symptoms such as abdominal swelling or bloating.
Our medical staff includes the region's only physicians specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers. Sacred Heart also is affiliated with national cancer research organizations, providing women access to the latest drugs and treatment options available from leading institutions across the country.
Dr. Steven DeCesare and Dr. Angela Ziebarth are obstetrician/gynecologists who completed fellowship training in cancer surgery and in the latest, most effective treatments for gynecologic cancers. These physicians provide specialized surgical treatments and chemotherapy, sometimes in combination with radiation therapy.

Screening and Treatment of Breast Cancer
As the most common cancer (other than skin cancer) among women, breast cancer poses a significant threat. But there is hope.
Early detection is a woman's best defense against breast cancer. Sacred Heart provides breast cancer screenings and diagnostic services at the Ann L. Baroco Center at Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola and at the Olson Women’s Diagnostic Center at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.
In addition to state-of-the-art imaging equipment, these centers offer education, support groups and onsite patient care navigators to assist with coordination of services.
