Checklist for Surgery
The best way to get the most out of your bariatric surgical experience is to follow all of the advice that your bariatric team gives you. By following a well-regimented plan, you will be better able to stay with our weight loss program and will experience better long-term results.
For your convenience, our bariatric team has created this simple checklist to help make your surgery go as smoothly as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask a member of your care team. Before Your Initial Consultation: • Obtain insurance authorization or referral. • Complete health questionnaire • Attend a bariatric informational seminar • Talk to former patients. • Quit smoking! At Your First Appointment with Your Surgeon, Bring: • Any questions for your surgeon, the Bariatric Coordinator, or insurance specialist • Complete copy of all medical records • Co-pay • Insurance authorization or referral • Insurance card
After Your Initial Consultation: • Attend required support group meetings. • Complete other evaluations and labs as indicated. • Follow requirement list from our insurance specialist that is specific to your insurance. • Follow-up on your medical record copies. • Make appointments and attend psychological evaluation, pre-op education class, and bariatric nutrition class. • Receive clearance to either surgical or medical treatment. Highly Recommended Activities: • Begin walking 10-20 minutes per day or start water aerobics. • Drink 6-8 glasses of water per day. • Learn everything you can about bariatric surgery, carefully study it out in your own mind, and ask lots of questions to former patients at our support group meetings. • Be willing to comply with all pre-op requirements, which may include losing weight. • Quit smoking!
