Janet L. Carlo, RN, BSN, Bariatric Program Manager Janet Carlo, RN, BSN, is the Bariatric Program Manager at the Sacred Heart Institute for Surgical Weight Loss. She is a 1982 graduate of Old Dominion University. Janet developed an interest in Bariatric Surgery after undergoing the Roux-en-y gastric bypass in 1998.
Janet’s nursing career includes the area of Cardiovascular/Neurosurgery as well as numerous years addressing women’s health issues while working in the Family Birth Center at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth and the Women’s Center at Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk. Prior to joining Sacred Heart Health System in Pensacola, she served as the Bariatric Program Coordinator/Case Manager at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. The success of surgical treatment must begin with realistic goals and continuous progress through a post-operative regimen of dietary and physical lifestyle change. The surgery alone does not guarantee long-term weight loss. Follow-up care continues after surgery, and the recovery process also calls for you to participate in a bariatric surgery support group.
