St. Catherine's Unit
Long known for its quality care and true compassion, the St. Catherine's Unit in Sacred Heart Hospital is designated for inpatient care of cancer patients. St. Catherine's is a 39-bed unit which features all private rooms complete with private baths.
The unit receives daily recognition of its commitment in the form of personal thanks from patients and their families, cards, letters, gifts and, very often, lasting friendships with former patients.
Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with chronic and/or serious illnesses. This type of care is focused on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve the quality of life for both the patient and the family. Palliative care is provided by a team of doctors, nurses, and other specialists who work with a patient's other doctors to provide an extra layer of support. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment.
