Childbirth Classes and Support Groups
Sacred Heart Hospital offers a variety of prenatal education classes designed to help you and other parents-to-be prepare for your special day and for the days that follow back home with your new baby.
For your convenience, class registration is available online. Space is limited, and registration is required for all classes. Please view our class descriptions and corresponding links to register below. Our Prepared Childbirth Series is designed to help prepare you and your partner for the birthing process, including tips to make you more comfortable during labor. Taught by experienced obstetrics nurses, this class series is especially designed for first-time moms and is offered as a four-week series, with each series beginning on the listed dates. (Moms who have had children before and are looking for a refresher course in the delivery experience are encouraged to take our Prepared Childbirth One-Day Class, if schedules permit.) This course also includes a complete tour of the labor and delivery area of Sacred Heart Hospital. Partners are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This class strives to prepare parents in caring for your new bundle of joy, from birth through your first few weeks at home. Newborn Parenting is taught by experienced nurses from Sacred Heart Hospital’s mother-baby unit, and a local pediatrician will be available to answer questions during a portion of the class. Partners are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Breastfeeding Class ($20 per couple)
Breastfeeding is one of the best gifts a mother and baby can give to each other, providing vitamins, nutrients and disease-fighting substances your baby needs. The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes breastfeeding as the best method of feeding and nurturing infants. This two-hour class, taught by one of Sacred Heart Hospital’s lactation consultants, teaches techniques for breastfeeding success and addresses common concerns to make your experience as smooth as possible. Partners are welcome and encouraged to attend. For your convenience, this class is offered on one Saturday morning and one Monday evening each month.

This fair-style class prepares soon-to-be siblings - ages 3 through 10 – for the arrival of a new baby in their family and includes games, movies, baby-care education stations and a complete tour of the labor and delivery area of Sacred Heart Hospital.

This free support group provides mothers with babies an opportunity to share experiences, gain support and develop friendships. A lactation consultant from Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola will be present to answer questions and offer advice. Baby weight checks are offered at each meeting.

Tours of Sacred Heart Hospital’s Labor-and-Delivery units will give soon-to-be moms an idea of what to expect during your stay at the hospital, including where to go, where to park and what to bring when you arrive for the delivery of your baby. Partners are welcome and encouraged to attend.

CPR for Family and Friends
This class teachesCPR and first aid for an infant or child who is choking. The course includes information on safety, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and the most common fatal injuries in infants and children. The course is offered through Sacred Heart's Education & Training Department. Please call 416-7264 for registration and course fee information.
