SHHS Sets New Highs in Associate Satisfaction!
Published Fall 2004
The best just got better! According to results of the Associate Satisfaction Survey, SHHS set seven
all-time highs, even breaking some of our own record scores that were set when the survey was
administered in 2001. This survey is offered every three years. Participation by both Ascension Health
facilities and its associates is voluntary.
The Associate Satisfaction Survey was conducted from Aug. 27 to Sept. 10, prior to the arrival of Hurricane Ivan. With 2,316 total SHHS survey participants, we also saw a very high rate of participation at 57 percent overall. The entire SHHS organization was surveyed during that time, including both acute-care facilities in Pensacola and Destin, Sacred Heart Home Care, The Haven of Our Lady of Peace, and Sacred Heart Medical Group.
For each question offered, respondents could indicate their level of satisfaction as strongly agree (4), agree (3), disagree (2), strongly disagree (1). The overall score for the health system was 3.14 which indicates a very positive response. In terms of global satisfaction, a total of 93 percent of SHHS survey participants indicated they either strongly agreed or agreed that they would recommend Sacred Heart as one of the best places to work in this community, according to Gina Hanrahan’s presentation.
Another key measurement of overall satisfaction showed that 52% of SHHS survey participants strongly agree that they “are proud to work here.” In addition, many individual work groups scored high on the survey, according to Gina. Department directors have received results specific to their work groups and will be sharing those with their associates in the coming weeks. Directors will involve associates in the development and implementation of action plans to address areas of improvement in their respective workgroups.
The categories which set new highs in the Ascension Health database represent the following categories:
Understanding Policies & Procedures
Teamwork/Co-workers
SHHS Image in the community
Communication
Commitment and Loyalty
Benefits
Fair Implementation
The Ascension Health database consists of 30,689 respondents representing 21 organizations. It represents a rolling three year timeframe. This national database, which includes not only Ascension Health facilities, but for-profit and not-for- profit health systems across the country, consists of 82,000 respondents representing 230 hospitals. It is the largest survey of its type in the country.
In addition to the Ascension health comparison, a total of 16 questions were presented in the latest survey to help create a foundation of normative data for the national database. Overall, Sacred Heart scored in the 95th percentile which means that only 5% of the participating health systems in the country scored higher.
Furthermore, Sacred Heart set two new national highs in the areas of benefits and steady work (belief you will have a job in the future if you do good work).
