R.N. Scholarship Program

Program Summary

In support of our continuous growth and development initiatives, Sacred Heart Health System encourages all associates and outside applicants to pursue an Associate and/or Baccalaureate in the field of Nursing.

Sacred Heart will provide financial assistance to selected applicants through our Nursing Scholarship Program. This program allocates monies up to $2,500.00 per year payable on a semester/quarter basis. In exchange, the scholarship recipient commits to work one year for Sacred Heart Health System on a full-time basis for each year he/she participates in the program.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Completed Scholarship Application
  • Copy of Letter of Acceptance from an Accredited Nursing Program
  • Copy of Official Transcripts from last school attended (High School or College)
  • Three Letters of Personal/Professional Reference (SHH associates must obtain a reference letter from his/her Patient Care Manager)

Selection Process

The selection process will be based upon the written application, official transcripts, and personal/professional references.

  • The Nursing Scholarship Selection Committee will review all completed scholarship packets and make recommendation for selection.
  • A personal interview with a hospital representative may be scheduled.
  • Utilizing the scholarship criteria and Application Screening Matrix, applicants are selected based on a point system.
  • Only completed applications along with required criteria received by the deadline date will be considered.

Payment Process

  • Nursing Administration will notify scholarship applicants of acceptance. At the time of the initial scholarship payment, the scholarship recipient must sign a contractual agreement committing to work for Sacred Heart Health System upon completion of the Accredited Nursing Program.
  • The payment process for scholarship monies is preceding the
    commencement of the semester/quarter.
  • The scholarship recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better and provide a copy of grades and next semester schedule prior to receiving the next scholarship payment.
  • The scholarship recipient who fails to complete the course of study will be required to repay with interest at the current prime rate plus 1%. The scholarship recipient will be responsible for repayment of the loan equivalent in timeframe to length of participation in the program (i.e., 12 months of schooling would require loan repayment over a period of no longer than 12 months).
  • Upon graduation, should the scholarship recipient fail to pass the required licensing exam at the first opportunity, he/she may continue to work at Sacred Heart Health System in a different position for which he/she is qualified. The time the scholarship recipient works in a capacity other than the one for which the scholarship was intended will not count toward the commitment time. The scholarship recipient must agree to take the licensing exam at the next offering.
  • Upon graduation, should the scholarship recipient decline employment with Sacred Heart Health System or be unable to pass the licensing exam, the scholarship recipient will repay the loan with interest at current prime rate plus 1% as specified above.
Sacred Heart Health System is an equal opportunity and an affirmative action employer
