Critical-Care Neurology and Stroke

Sacred Heart’s critical-care neurology team cares for seriously ill patients who, due to stroke or traumatic head or spinal injury, are medically unstable and require an intensive level of monitoring and treatment.

The practice of critical-care neurology requires an understanding of many neurologic disorders at their most serious and complicated stages, as well as familiarity with neurosurgical procedures.

Our multi-disciplinary team consists of professionals specially trained in neurology, anesthesiology, neurosurgery and critical-care medicine. We are dedicated to reducing the risk and burden of cerebrovascular disease (including stroke, arteriovenous malformations and aneurysms), tumors, infections and trauma through efforts directed at prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Sacred Heart Trauma Services
Sacred Heart is designated by the State of Florida as a Pediatric Trauma Referral Center and a Level II Trauma Center for adults. Our 24-hour Emergency /Trauma Center is staffed and equipped to handle life-threatening injuries in adults and children. Our trauma team is led by trauma surgeons who coordinate care with other specialists, including neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons.

Sacred Heart Regional Stroke Center
Based in the Emergency/Trauma Center at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, the Stroke Center team includes neurologists, nurses and rehabilitation specialists trained in stroke assessment and treatment. With state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and the latest treatments for stroke, Sacred Heart Regional Stroke Center provides fast, effective care that improves outcomes and reduces death and disability from stroke, as well as long-term follow up via a vascular neurology clinic to prevent future strokes.

The Sacred Heart Regional Stroke Center has earned Primary Stroke Center Certification and the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The Stroke Center has also received the American Stroke Association’s “Get With The Guidelines – Stroke” Silver Performance Achievement Award. These awards and certifications affirm Sacred Heart’s Regional Stroke Center’s commitment to the highest national standards for safety and quality of stroke care.
