From throwing a baseball to lifting heavy objects over your head to sweeping your floor, your shoulders and elbows enable you do many daily activities.

At Sacred Heart, our Orthopedics Team specializes in treating both common and complex conditions of the shoulder and elbow to help you return to your daily routine quicker and with less pain.

Shoulders

The shoulder is the most flexible joint in the human body, which can cause shoulder instability and several painful shoulder problems. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, nearly 4 million people each year need medical attention for shoulder problems.

The shoulder joint is made up of three major bones that are held in place by muscles, tendons and ligaments. Two pairs of joints help the shoulder move. The first is the acromioclavicular joint, which is located at the highest point of the shoulder blade where it connects to the collarbone. The second is called the glenohumeral joint, which is the ball and socket joint most of us call the shoulder joint.

Elbow injuries can occur in most sports and in many daily activities, especially those involving throwing or swinging. The elbow also can be injured in contact sports or from the impact of a fall.
