Sacred Heart Hospital is the only hospital in Northwest Florida and South Alabama to provide dialysis for both children and adults. Dialysis is one way of replacing the critical function of the kidneys, thereby sustaining life.
Our Dialysis Unit is staffed by specially trained nurses, technicians, dietitians and nephrologists (kidney specialists), including the area's only pediatric nephrologist. The unit's services are available 24 hours a day, and it provides:
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Hemodialysis
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (24 hour care)
- Plasmapheresis (therapeutic plasma exchange)
- Our patients include persons with chronic and acute sickle cell anemia.
Sacred Heart's dialysis unit for adults is operated by Renal Care Group in association with five nephrologists. The pediatric dialysis unit is operated by Renal Care Group in cooperation with Nemours Children's Clinic and the University of Florida College of Medicine's Pediatric Residency Program.
