For more than 20 years, Sacred Heart Hospital has sponsored an accredited Pediatric Residency Program, a three-year program that trains doctors in the care of children.
More recently in 2006, the program became affiliated with the Florida State Univeristy College of Medicine, making the program a part of the university's Department of Pediatrics.
Under the affiliation agreement, staff physicians and resident physicians in Sacred Heart's Pediatrics department become part of Florida Stute University's medical school.
The affiliation means expanded educational opportunities to the medical staff at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital and to the young physicians who are training in pediatrics.
The programs offers a blend of rotations through ward and general clinics, subspecialty clinics, complex care clinics, newborn nursery, neonatal intensive care unit, surgery, emergency medicine, behavior and development, intensive care unit, and a wide variety of electives.
