Sacred Heart Hospital's SENIORSpirit! program will present a free seminar on abdominal aortic aneurysms on Monday, Nov. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Dudley Greenhut Auditorium on Sacred Heart's main campus.
The seminar will be presented by Dr. Christopher LeCroy, a board-certified vascular surgeon at Sacred Heart Hospital. The seminar will help attendees understand the signs and symptoms of abdominal aortic aneurysms, as well as prevention and methods of treatment and management of the condition.
An aneurysm is a bulge in the wall of a weakened blood vessel. It can develop slowly over years as a blood vessel weakens, or it can happen suddenly as the result of an injury. If an aneurysm bursts, it can lead to excessive bleeding and even death. They can happen anywhere in the body.
Aortic aneurysms occur in the aorta, which is the large artery that leads away from our heart. The most common aortic aneurysms is an abdominal aortic aneurysm, which occurs in the lower part of the aorta, below the diaphragm.
Dr. LeCroy, recently relocated with his family to his hometown of Pensacola to begin his practice in vascular surgery. He graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School and completed medical school, general surgery residency and his vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He has joined a group surgical practice with offices on the campus of Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola and at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.
