The Haven of Our Lady of Peace will conduct a blood drive on Tuesday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in partnership with Northwest Florida Blood Services (NFBS). The NFBS bloodmobile will be parked next to the Haven, which is located at 1900 Summit Blvd. in Pensacola, near the intersection of Summit and 12th Avenue.
Blood donors must be at least age 16 (16-year-olds must have parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
At this time of year, the need for blood increases. "With so many families on the road during the spring and summer, we recognize that there is an increase in the need for blood and blood products," says Martha Perez, administrator of the Haven of Our Lady of Peace. "We invite the public, as well as our Haven employees and family members of our residents, to help save lives by donating blood."
In addition to emergency needs, blood is provided to patients undergoing surgeries and children and adults in cancer treatment, to name a few of the uses. All blood donors will receive a free cholesterol test, a coupon for a free dessert, a complimentary blood drive T-shirt, and the opportunity to enter drawings for prizes.
