Radiation Oncologists Join Sacred Heart Cancer Center
The Cancer Center at Sacred Heart Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of two Medical Center Clinic physicians who specialize in radiation oncology.
Dr. Gerald Lowrey and Dr. Rod Krentel have joined the Sacred Heart medical staff and will provide radiation therapy services at the hospital's Cancer Center.
Dr. Lowrey is a Pensacola native and has practiced at Medical Center Clinic for 16 years. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Florida College Of Medicine and also performed his residency training in radiation oncology at the University of Florida.
Dr. Krentel has served as an assistant clinical professor of radiology at the University of South Alabama hospitals in Mobile since 1996. He also has worked as a radiation oncologist at Springhill Cancer Center in Mobile and at Baldwin County Cancer Center in Fairhope, Ala.
Dr. Krentel obtained his medical degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine and performed his residency training in radiation oncology at the University of Kentucky.

Find Strength in Sharing at Sacred Heart's Cancer Support Group Meeting on July 10
Cancer patients, cancer survivors, their families and friends are invited to the next meeting of Sacred Heart Hospital’s Cancer Support Group. The meeting will be held Tuesday, July 10, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the main hospital’s Oncology Unit Library on the second floor. Valet parking is available at the hospital’s main entrance on Ninth Avenue.
The focus of July’s meeting will be “Celebrating Survivorship!” The support group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. in the same location. Upcoming topics to be addressed also include tips on handling the side effects of chemotherapy; Advance Directives; disability; and journaling.

(PENSACOLA, FL) – Dr. Silwan Chedid, a board certified cancer specialist who trained in oncology and hematology at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, is coming to Pensacola to join Sacred Heart Medical Oncology Group.
Dr. Chedid will join the practice at Sacred Heart Hospital of Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg, a credentialed physician with M. D. Anderson Physicians Network®.
Dr. Chedid earned his bachelor’s degree in biology at The University of Texas in Austin and medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. After medical school, he performed three years of residency training in internal medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, N.J. He subsequently completed three more years of fellowship training in oncology at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, one of the world’s most respected cancer centers devoted exclusively to cancer care, research, education and prevention. He has conducted research related to breast cancer treatments, chemotherapy, colon cancer and cord blood transplantation.
Before moving to Pensacola, Dr. Chedid lived in Boston and worked as a cancer specialist at hospitals in Lawrence, Mass. and other communities near Boston. “I enjoy working in a faith-based hospital,” said Dr. Chedid. “I am looking forward to leaving the cold weather and living in a place where the people are as warm and friendly as the weather.”
Born in Australia, Dr. Chedid came to the U.S. in 1979 and spent most of his formative years in Houston. He enjoys swimming, jogging and bicycle riding.
