"What if something happens?"

This is a question many of us ask ourselves when we know a senior loved one spends time alone. Many seniors strive to maintain their independence, but realize that a serious fall or other emergency health event could be a catastrophic possibility. The truth is, the mortality rate is five times higher for people who lay incapacitated for 12+ hours than those who get immediate help.

Personal Emergency Response Systems are a great way to provide piece of mind for yourself or a loved one. A tiny, waterproof pendant worn by the individual allows him/her to establish two-way, hands-free communication with an attendant, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from anywhere in or around the home.  A trained, caring attendant answers the call to determine what assistance is needed and contacts the appropriate help immediately.

Depending on the individual’s needs, personal emergency response systems can also provide reminders of daily tasks such as taking medications or exercise schedules through the use of voice prompts played at predetermined schedules throughout the day.  They can also monitor environmental sensors to provide an enhanced level or protection and convenience.  Seniors and individuals with disabilities are at particular risk during severe heat or cold.  Additional threats can come from smoke and carbon monoxide in the home.  There is a full range of sensors designed to work with the personal emergency response units.

Thirty percent of seniors fall annually, and falls are the #1 reason for both ER visits and nursing home admissions. Personal emergency response systems are designed to reduce the complications associated with falls or other health-related emergencies by ensuring prompt assistance.

Sacred Heart Senior Services is now pleased to be offering a full line of personal emergency response systems known as  – CareLink®.
