The Center is the only one in Northwest Florida accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). There are over 800 hyperbaric facilities in the United States. The Sacred Heart facility is one of only 75 facilities to receive full accreditation by the UHMS.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides 100 percent oxygen to patients under pressure, helping to heal damaged tissues, reduce swelling and improve circulation. The therapy increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in the blood, so more oxygen is delivered to injured tissue. In turn, this stimulates small blood vessel and skin growth and helps fight infection.
Why would someone need the Wound Center? Some wounds are complicated and need special treatment. Individuals who have health issues such as diabetes and poor circulation are also at high risk for developing a wound that would need special treatment.
How can the Wound Care Center benefit me? The staff in the Center is a team of wound care specialists. The team works closely with your primary care physician to coordinate a treatment plan designed just for your needs. Throughout your care, the team communicates with your family physician on your progress in the Wound Center.
