Pediatric Care Center Moving to Escambia Community Clinics
In summer 2017, access to pediatric medical and dental care will become more convenient for low-income families, thanks to a collaboration between Escambia Community Clinics, Inc. (ECC), The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart, University of Florida Health and the Florida Department of Health – Escambia County.
Sacred Heart’s Pediatric Care Center, which has served area families since 1978, will move to 1295 W. Fairfield Drive, Pensacola, and become ECC at Fairfield, a new satellite site of the community health center, located within the Florida Department of Health – Escambia main service center.
The Pediatric Care Center is staffed by resident and attending physicians of Sacred Heart’s pediatric residency program, which is affiliated with the department of pediatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine. These physicians will continue practicing at the new ECC at Fairfield location.
“Sacred Heart has collaborated with and supported ECC for many years,” said Doug Ross, MD, senior vice president and chief clinical officer for Sacred Heart Health System. “By transitioning our practice to ECC, our patients will benefit from improved convenience and easier access to other healthcare services, such as onsite pediatric dental care, as well as WIC food-and-nutrition assistance available within the health department building.”
Sacred Heart’s current Pediatric Care Center physicians will move to the new ECC site, with the exception of adolescent medicine physician Dr. James Burns and pediatric nephrologist Dr. Edward Kohaut, who will remain at their current address, 1657 Trinity Drive on the Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola campus.
Sacred Heart’s Pediatric Care Center currently occupies a freestanding building on the north side of the main Sacred Heart Hospital campus along Trinity Drive. Each year, the Pediatric Care Center serves more than 20,000 young patients.
Services provided at Sacred Heart’s Pediatric Care Center will continue to be provided at the new ECC at Fairfield location. These include non-emergency services such as well-baby checkups, immunizations, routine physicals, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and follow-up care to children in need who are discharged from The Children’s Hospital.
“We are very excited to collaborate with University of Florida Health, Sacred Heart, and the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County to continue the long tradition of providing high quality pediatric care to children and families of our area,” said Chandra Smiley, ECC Executive Director. “The ability to bring these health care leaders together in this new and convenient location will create improved access to care with the goal of improving the health of the children of our area.”
The Pediatric Care Center is accepting new patients and most major insurance plans. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 850-416-7710. Appointments scheduled after July 3 will be at the Fairfield Drive location.
